Whenever I think of a masterpiece, I usually think of works of art – paintings, sculptures, or music. I don’t consider myself to be an artist, so does that mean I will never have a masterpiece? You may be an accountant, teacher, doctor, counselor, file clerk, or lawyer; there’s nothing artistic about those professions. How can we make a masterpiece out of our lives?
Typically, a masterpiece is not created overnight. It takes time, patience, and lots of work. The idea may come quickly, but the creation may take years. It’s amazing to think that some of the movies in theaters now started production more than 7 years ago. If you believe in what you’re doing, you’ll work at it with all your heart. It is your masterpiece.
In the same way, your faith can be a masterpiece. We pour countless hours into spiritual disciplines, and we strive to develop a better understanding of God to find meaning in our lives. If we simply go through the motions, we will never grow. If we devote our time, thoughts, and work to being an agent of change and an ambassador for God, we create our masterpiece. It does not happen overnight. It takes time.
Think of your life, your faith, as a work of art.
